Come as a Student, Become a Manager

On behalf of the HTMi Faculty Board, I welcome you to HTMi. Over the next decade, the international hotel and tourism industry is forecast to maintain its position as the world’s largest employer of people, and largest provider of management positions. We are in a truly international industry, which demands an international mix of managers, to reflect the international nature of our hotels. HTMi’s role is to prepare students for a management career in this, the most exciting industry today.

To allow our students to research, study and train in different aspects of the hotel and tourism industry, HTMi Hotel and Tourism Management Institute has four ‘centres for excellence’. They are: The School of International Hotel and Tourism Management, The International Hospitality Research Centre, The International Centre for Events Management Training and The Centre for Culinary Management. Our teaching faculty are all highly qualified and are fully dedicated to our mission of preparing all students for management positions in the hotel and tourism industry, ranging from trainee managers, to middle managers to senior managers.

HTMi is supported by a world-wide support network of offices and international hotel companies. To assist us with our mission, each semester, international hotel companies visit us to recruit on campus. In this they are assisted by the HTMi International Department. Our graduates can be found in the leading hotel companies world-wide.

Welcome to the world of International Hotel and Tourism Management, welcome to HTMi.

The Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain, Tucson, AZ, USA

Akshay Maheshwari - J1 Food and Beverage Intern

“The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company is known for being the “Gold Standard” of hospitality. With it’s unshakeable credo and its unwavering commitment to service, it stands for everything I personally value in the hospitality Industry. The Fall of 2016, the Career Center at HTMi connected me with the recruiters from various International hotel chains that led me to the doors of The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain in the United States. I accepted the offer of a J-1 Food & Beverage Trainee position in order to build connections, learn the American business practices, new customs and enrich my life while enhancing my Swiss education. After the successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma course theoretical part, I started my 12-month internship in February 2017 at the prestigious Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain in Arizona. My role as a F&B Trainee involves an ever changing lineup of responsibilities across the property from one-to-one guest interactions to highly intricate services for large events. Working both, morning and the evening shifts has not only brought together my passion but also my eagerness to learn. Considered the world’s finest luxury brand, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company has kept it’s promise to present a diverse environment conducive to my professional learning and growth.”

Cody Dulthummon - Brand Manager

“I am taking this opportunity to thank you for the past 4 years of my life spent in Switzerland. It was not only a place where best times were spent but a place where personal and career growth was achieved.
In June 2017, I accomplished my Bachelor of Science Degree and graduating on the 14th of December 2017. After experiencing work in Europe, Spain, The Middle East and The United States, today I am taking a new challenge in China. My adventure continues with the Swisstouches Hotels & Resorts as a Brand Manager based at the Head Office in Xi’an, China. Looking back, it was a tough road but I would say that my path was led by the best teachers provided by HTMi. I would especially thank the Career Center as they are the one presenting opportunities and making all possible. Their great assistance and dedication allowed me to travel the world and experience different cultures as well as working environments, all being in Luxury 5 Star settings. HTMi Switzerland will always have a special place in my heart.”

Dan Popa

Swisstouches Hotels & Resorts, Xi'an, China

Dan Popa - Brand Manager

“After graduating the BSc, Bachelor of Science Degree in International Hospitality Management at HTMi in June 2017, I decided to join Swisstouches Hotels & Resorts. My current position is Brand Manager & Hospitality Training Manager and I am in charge of the training and development of the Swisstouches employees, as well as ensuring that the brand standards are respected and implemented at our multiple properties. Being part of such a great growing Swiss company in China and being able to make a difference and inspire our “family members” (We are one big family at Swisstouches) really feels great and it is an experience I recommend to other graduates as well. Part of achieving this, I would like to thank to HTMi for the valuable education which proves so useful now and to the HTMi Career Centre for providing this opportunity and for the continuous inspiration and support in taking this decision. Furthermore, the career advice and the tailor-made workshops are very appreciated and useful now. I consider that the Career Services and the Alumni Network are very valuable and it is time for all of us, as HTMi Alumni to make more use of it. Collaborating and travelling to different Swisstouches properties across China and soon in Vietnam, I am more than happy to meet and exchange ideas, experiences and opportunities with Alumni friends.”
